Securing a motorcycle in a pickup truck can be harder than you’d think. Just follow the simple steps below and you’ll be set!
Tips on Securing A Motorcycle In A Pickup Truck
Step 1- Make sure that you are parked on a firm, even surface. You’ll also want to clean your truck’s bed to make sure there isn’t anything to slip on.
Step 2- Unfold your ramp and attach the edge to the top of the tailgate’s lip.
Step 3- Secure the ramp with a tie-down strap.
Step 4- Make sure your bike is in neutral and set it so that it’s facing the ramp.
Step 5- Push the bike up the ramp. The easiest way to do this is to get a friend to push it from behind while you hold the bike’s handlebars.
Step 6- Once the bike is all the way in, put on the front brake and then attach tie down straps above the suspension and tie-down points on both sides of the front wheel. As you go about securing a motorcycle in a pickup truck, make sure that the front wheel is braced on the front side of the bed. Make sure to remove any left over slack from the tie-downs.
Note: This is the procedure if you do not have a Lock ‘N Load motorcycle wheel chock! While this is standard practice, securing a motorcycle in a pickup truck without one of our motorcycle wheel chocks places excessive strain on the motorcycle suspension. The suspension must be placed under tension during transport which can put a great deal of strain on the front forks.
In the event that you have not purchased a Lock ‘N Load motorcycle wheel chock and need to replace your fork seals, here is the best video we’ve found on how to do it yourself… but why bother when our wheel chocks will save you all the hassle!
Step 7- Make sure all of the tie-downs are tight and secure. Then bounce the suspension on your bike. If set up properly your bike should be attached firmly but with just enough suspension to absorb any big bumps on the road.
Step 8- If it seems like the bike still isn’t secure enough, put another tie down strap on the rear wheel, just like you did with the front one.
Step 9- Double check everything to make sure the bike is secure, and once you’re on the road make sure you check it now and then just to be safe.
That’s it! Now you know everything you need to know about securing a motorcycle in a pickup truck without a motorcycle wheel chock from Lock ‘N Load Canada.
With a Lock and Load motorcycle wheel chock here’s what the procedure is for securing a motorcycle in a pickup truck:
Steps 1 to 5 are the same.
Step 6 – Roll the motorcycle right into the motorcycle wheel chock. It will bump into place and stand firmly upright.
Step 7 – Use the included front wheel tie down to secure the bike to the wheel chock.
Step 8 – For extra support, use a pair of our BK-200 Motorcycle Tie Down straps and attach the included hooks to the frame of the motorcycle.
